Seven Oaks Pet Hospital uses diagnostic ultrasound, which has been proven to be a powerful tool in both veterinary and human medicine. Our diagnostic ultrasound is part of our state-of-the-art medicine we practice at our hospital, and are pleased to offer such a high level of care to our patients.
Ultrasonography uses ultrasound waves that produce an image. These waves come from a small probe that is held gently against the pet’s skin. This procedure is completely painless, is non-invasive, and does not use radiation. The waves sent by the machine either continue through or bounce back, creating contrast and thus an image of the internal organs. Ultrasound waves generate excellent images of abdominal organs, including the liver, spleen, gallbladder, and kidneys in real time. It can also detect pregnancy in animals and help diagnose stages of cancer.
Ultrasound has also been useful in cardiology, as it can evaluate the heart as it beats. This can help detect abnormalities in the motion of heart valves, blood flow, contractions of the heart muscle, and heart defects.
