Dr. Jalan Wishik was born and raised in Tampa, FL and she received her Bachelor of Science from Florida State University, with a major in Biological sciences and a minor in Chemistry. While originally planning to go to medical school to pursue human medicine, her family dog of 18 years became very ill while she was away at school and that became a pivotal moment in her career change to veterinary medicine. She then worked at an animal hospital for a year and half to gain animal experience, while also volunteering at a primate sanctuary and a big cat animal rescue. Before she knew it moved to Knoxville, TN where she attended the University of Tennessee to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. She is a loyal member of the AVMA and is fear-free certified. She has a special interest in surgery, holistic medicine, and strives to gain more experience with exotic animal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking and baking, practicing yoga, and spending time with her two daughters, Gia, a pocket pit, and Eve, an Irish Wolfhound.
